Alba-Iulia

The citadel still standing today was built in the 18 th century over the ancient roman castrum of Apulum. The fortress has seven bulwarks that make it a star shaped one, common to Vauban fortresses – Alba Iulia being quite representative for this type. This unique military architecture monument is paticularly admired for the mythological decorations on its walls. This area is also well-known for the wines made here.

The Unification Cathedral, The Roman Camp, The Princely Palace and the Apor Palace are important tourist attraction.
